Aug. 31 — The 1st 50-50 for Foundations is started underway. Tickets are being sold in all four communities and the entire Region. Money raised will be kept in the communities it was drawn from. The draw will take place during a Gala Desert Café — Silent Auction with Live Music Aug. 31 from 6 — 9 p.m. at the Kiwanis Centre in Madoc.

Inspired by the surrounding salt marshes, meadows and magnificent woodlands, the course provides three distinctly different golf experiences rarely found in one course. The course is dotted with pot bunkers that help defend the smallish, elevated greens, many of which are surrounded by tightly mown chipping areas. First-time players often find it difficult to stay focused on each shot- the gorgeous views have proved to be distracting. A good round requires staying out of the numerous water hazards, which come into play on more than half the holes. As a group, the best collection of holes may be the memorable one-shotters, especially the 158 yard 13th, which features a carry over water to a small green framed by soaring pines and deep bunkers.
