Fort Mill girls top Rock Hill for 1st win of year
The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets jumped out to a big lead and held on to edge Rock Hill 44-42 Tuesday night on the road for their first win basketball game of the season.
Rock Hill's Asia Potts had a chance to tie the score with 1.9 seconds left in the game after being fouled by junior guard Rae Lynch as they went for a loose ball. Potts missed the front end of the one-and-one and the clock ran out.
The Jackets led 11-2 after one period but the Bearcats went on a 12-2 run in the second, which included three consecutive three-pointers in just over a minute from Heather Sutton, to tie the score at 19. Sutton's fourth three, which came at 6:05 of the third, gave Rock Hill a brief 28-27 lead.
It was a night of celebration for Rock Hill's wrestling team and included a pair of victories.
The Bearcats started the night with a 38-25 win over Nation Ford, then closed with a 42-22 win over South Pointe. Rock Hill improved to 9-2.
Rock Hill inducted former wrestlers Chris Collins and Ryan Adams into the Rock Hill Wrestling Circle of Champions and celebrated senior Jonathan Schavey's 100th-career victory.
Up next for the Bearcats will be the West Lincoln Rebel Duals this Saturday.
