25 ways to entertain yourself this season
(Psst, that's kind of our job.)
Here's our "must" list of 24 things to do before Christmas. Consider it our gift to you.
THEATER
Attend one of several local stage shows to help you catch the Christmas spirit. Here are some of the productions going on this month:
"Christmas With the Crawfords," SNAP (through Dec. 18, Thursday through Sunday showtimes)
."Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and Then Some!)," Blue Barn Theatre (through Dec. 17, Thursdays through Sunday showtimes)
"A Christmas Carol," Omaha Community Playhouse (through Dec. 23, Wednesday through Sunday showtimes)
"The Yuletide Phantom," Circle Theater (Dec. 9 through 23, Thursday through Saturday showtimes)
"A Christmas Survival Guide," Lofte Community Theatre (Saturday and Sunday)
"Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells," Rose Theater (through Dec. 18, Friday through Sunday showtimes)
MOVIES
Take the little ones to a Christmas-themed movie such as "Arthur Christmas," and watch it through their eyes.
REACH OUT
Light a fire, put some Christmas tunes on the stereo, put some peppermint flavoring in a cup of hot cocoa and write a few Christmas cards to loved ones.
HIT THE RINK
Go ice skating. The University of Nebraska Medical Center's public ice rink, located between 40th and 42nd Streets between Dewey Avenue and Emile Street, will be open through Feb. 29. Hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays; and noon to 8 p.m. Sundays. The rink is closed Mondays. The cost to skate is $5, which includes skate rental. Hot chocolate will be available for purchase.
PAY IT FORWARD
Commit a random act of kindness in honor of the season of light. Bonus points if it's for an absolute stranger.
RECONNECT
Contact somebody you haven't talked to in ages and reconnect while wishing them Merry Christmas.
