Police say a 67-year-old Burlington woman was walking through the parking lot of the Mapleview mall around 11 a.m., when a man ripped her purse out of her grasp.
He took off in a nearby vehicle, but not before she got his licence plate number.
The woman called police, who later spotted the Honda CRV on the eastbound QEW near Walker’s Line. Officers eventually boxed in the vehicle in a gas station parking lot at the corner of Burloak Drive and Harvester Road.
Police said they found the stolen purse, which contained a “fairly substantial” amount of cash. Then, officers discovered the CRV has been reported stolen earlier Saturday – taken while it idled unattended in the driveway of a Mississauga residence.
Paul Stubbs, 48, of Mississauga is charged with robbery, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and driving while disqualified.
