Cuando Doug Peterson asuma la presidencia de Standard & Poor's este septiembre, heredará una serie de problemas que pocos envidiarían. En 2004, Peterson fue designado director ejecutivo de Citigroup en Japón, el mismo año en que la Agencia nipona de Servicios Financieros ordenó a Citigroup suspender su actividad de banca privada por prácticas irregulares y realizar transacciones que podían estar relacionadas con lavado de dinero. Se le prohibió al banco participar en subastas de bonos gubernamentales y aceptar depósitos en monedas extranjeras de nuevos clientes.
