All About Food: Cheese, wine, bread aplenty at Vin Goat
It's always exciting to meet people who bravely abandoned "real jobs" to fulfill their passion after years of thought and planning. John Bennett and Hans-Erich Vogel are two such people.
They have recently opened goat wine, wine and a cleverly named boutique cheese on East Coast Highway in Corona del Mar. Their shop offers crafts from small suppliers in the world: cheese, charcuterie, gourmet food and wine cellar (when their license comes through).

Bennett's career was in the high-tech industry, but his passion for food began in childhood. His mother was a great cook and baker. Even at the age of four, he loved his watch in the kitchen.
As he aged, he enjoyed cooking mama help but his favorite activity was cooking. At 20, he spent a year in the region of France from Bordeaux, where he discovered the delights of French cuisine and the joys of fine cheeses beyond cheddar, Swiss and Velveeta Midwest of his childhood. Finally, after years in the business world, he wanted to do something that involved food.
Vogel grew up in Irvine with a mother who was also a good cook, and a German father who foraged Orange County for German sausages, cheese and brown bread dense. Love food Vogel took him to the restoration, first as a waiter, then as a restaurant manager and BJ Brewhouse.
Thinking it was time for a "real job", he went into marketing and advertising. But, as Bennett, he hoped one day to return to the food.
Five years ago on Memorial Day, the two friends sat drinking sangria and feeling sorry for their jobs. They bounced around some ideas and wondered what the community needed.They dreamed of a small neighborhood grocery store, something you might find in the streets of Paris.
Vogel, who lived in Corona del Mar, the community felt that he felt "just." They designed a business plan, but before its implementation, the economy has turned and they had to put the project on hold.
