This law firm Sidley Austin recently announced that the Securities and Exchange Commission Veteran James A. Brigagliano join the firm as a partner in the practice of securities and futures regulation.
Before joining Sidley Austin, Brigagliano served as Deputy Director of the Division of Trade and Market in the SEC. There he served in a variety of political and senior management positions. His job included driving a variety of major regulatory initiatives by the SEC, including the Dodd-Frank.
He also played in the development of the SEC's response to the financial crisis of 2008, and worked in tandem with the Treasury Department, the Federal Reserve and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to minimize damage to U.S. markets. In addition, Brigagliano worked hand in hand with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the largest independent regulator for securities firms doing business in the United States, and provided information on a regular basis staffs of the Congress on regulatory changes.

Subsequently, he joined what is now known as the Division of trading and markets. In 2006 he was promoted to deputy director in 2006. In this role, he oversaw a range of regulatory programs and enforcement liaison functions. In 2009 he was appointed deputy director.As director, he oversaw the regulation of broker-dealers, securities markets and business practices, so he advised on the implementation issues and has testified before Congress. Also in 2009, he served as co-interim director of the Division.
